Environmental Review: The Washington State Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation (DAHP) GIS Initiative is a set of Geographic Information System based tools that help public agencies design projects to avoid damage to archaeological and historic sites during the environmental planning process.
GIS Layers at DAHP Because of the potential for vandalism and looting, archaeological site locations are not publicly available. However, this information is shared with a variety of local governments, agencies, tribal governments and academic institutions by means of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to insure state and federal laws are followed. Please contact Stephenie Kramer at (360) 586-3083 or Stephenie.Kramer@dahp.wa.gov for more information about obtaining a MOU. DAHP has also developed several GIS layers (Meta data) for historic and prehistoric sites. The layers include information on state and NR register sites, historic property inventory sites and cultural resource survey locations. The cultural resource survey locations are being digitized based on the USGS quadrangle base maps. The registered sites and historical inventory sites will be geo-coded and digitized as appropriate. These layers are in development. For further information about our GIS program contact Rick Anderson at (360) 586-3070 or Rick.Anderson@dahp.wa.gov.
