Historic Vessel Tax Exemption
In order to help offset the cost of maintaning historic ships and vessels, Washington State exempts ships or vessels that have been listed on the Washington Heritage Register or the National Register of Historic Places from paying commercial vessel tax, a type of personal property tax. Stakeholders note that historic vessels in Washington provide educational, tourism, and economic benefits to the state and its citizens.
The preference, found in RCW 84.36.080 was enacted in 1986 and does not have an expiration date.
