Looking for Students Historic Preservation Students with Interest in Climate Change

Do you know a student with a strong interest in historic preservation who is also engaged in climate change and sustainability issues?  If so, pass along the following information to register for the Washington’s Youth Summit on Climate scheduled for October 1st at the Meydenbauer Center in Bellevue and being held in conjunction with the Washington Chapter of the American Planning Association (APA) annual conference on October 2nd and 3rd. Registration is free for the full day event and webcasted around the state. There is also a webinar that students can participate in on September 17th. Register here. A key element will be a session for and by students to share their interests and response to climate change, carbon emission reduction, and sustainability.  DAHP is seeking to recruit a student (could be high school, technical college, vocational-education school, or early college student) with an interest in historic preservation and the connection to sustainability, climate change, and carbon emissions, to do a brief presentation at the summit. The presentation would be 10-15 minutes and based upon the student’s research, project, or action they have taken the addresses how preservation principles can be used to address sustainability and help reduce carbon emissions and the impact of climate change. If you know of a student who could play this role at the summit, please contact Greg Griffith at DAHP as soon as possible at greg.griffith@dahp.wa.gov or call at 360-586-3073. Even if you don’t know of a student who could present at the conference, you are encouraged to forward information about the webinar and summit to students or instructors who may interested in joining in the event.
