BLACK HISTORY MONTH: DUPONT HISTORICAL MUSEUM OPENS BUFFALO SOLDIER EXHIBIT

The DuPont Historical Museum together with the Friends of DuPont Buffalo Soldier History has opened a new exhibit on Buffalo Soldier heritage in celebration of Black History Month 2020. The new exhibit at the museum showcases the DuPont story of the Ninth Cavalry African American soldiers who participated in the 1904 joint military exercises that took place in the DuPont, Steilacoom & Lakewood vicinity of Pierce County. This 1904 encampment is thought to be the first integrated exercises in American history. This and subsequent encampments led to formation of Camp Lewis that eventually evolved into today's massive Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM).

The Museum is located at 207 Barksdale Avenue in DuPont, just off I-5. For more information go to: http://www.facebook.com/dupontbuffalosoldiers or call 253-988-3688.
