Calling all young preservationists!
Jan 12, 2017
RevitalizeWA is Washington State’s annual historic preservation and Main Street conference. The 2017 conference will be held in Ellensburg, April 24-26. In an effort to bring fresh and diverse voices to the study of Historic Preservation and Main Streets at RevitalizeWA, the fellowship supports first-time attendance by students and young professionals with interest in gaining professional exposure to the fields of preservation and downtown revitalization, as well as by practitioners and independent scholars in the field. Awards are restricted to recipients studying, residing or currently working within the state of Washington ages 18-29. Winners are not required to present at the conference, although strongly encouraged. Applicants studying or working in preservation, architecture, history, archeology, anthropology, engineering, landscape architecture, construction, community development, economics, sociology, advocacy, government, or a related field with an interest in historic preservation or the Main Street program are encouraged to apply. Each award recipient will be matched with a leader in a related field to serve as a mentor throughout the conference. The award recipient will connect with their mentor prior to and during the conference to discuss educational and professional paths. The award will cover the cost of registration for the conference including tours. Winners who live more than 30 miles from the conference site will also receive a stipend for travel and lodging, to be presented at the conference. Winners, including those presenting at the conference, are required to write an article to be published in the Washington Trust for Historic Preservation’s newsletter, Trust News, discussing what they learned as first-time attendees. Applications are due February 10th 2017, and should consist of a C.V. or resume and a one-page letter detailing how the candidate heard about the RevitalizeWA Access/Mentorship program, why he or she qualifies, and what interests him or her about attending RevitalizeWA. Materials should be submitted as email attachments in Word of PDF format to jpatterson@preservewa.org. Please include “2017 RevitalizeWA Fellows Program” in the subject line of the email. Questions about the program may also be directed to that address.
