City of Olympia Historic Building Photo Exhibition

Celebrating Our Downtown Historic Buildings To showcase our downtown’s special historical character, the City of Olympia’s Heritage Commission is launching a photo exhibition at the new Downtown Welcome Center at the corner of 4th Avenue and Franklin Street.  This event is held in conjunction with other National Historic Preservation Month activities. Starting May 29th, this temporary historical photo display will celebrate downtown’s “landmark birthdays”, giving special recognition to buildings that have turned 50, 75, 100 and 125 over the past five years.  Over 30 of our downtown landmarks will be featured, ranging from the 1884 Mottman Building to the 1913 Olympia Knitting Mills, 1937 North Coast Depot, and the 1963 Capital Savings & Loan Building.  The Rex Building itself, home of the Downtown Welcome Center, is featured for celebrating its 100th birthday this year.  The photo display will be on view at the Downtown Welcome Center throughout the month of June. Join the Downtown Welcome Center partners – the City of Olympia, Downtown Ambassadors, Olympia Downtown Association, Olympia|Lacey|Tumwater Visitor & Convention Bureau, and Parking & Business Improvement Area Board – for a kick-off of the exhibit: Friday, May 29, 2015
