COMING UP THIS WEEKEND IN TACOMA: HISTORIC HOME TOUR and UNION STATION CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION

This weekend, April 30th  and May 1st, the Tacoma Historical Society will be hosting its 17th annual Historic Homes of Tacoma Tour. The tour includes visits to six historic homes in the city’s north end as well as Jason Lee Middle School, First Evangelical Lutheran Church and First Church of Christ, Scientist. Tickets are $20.00 and may be purchased at the tour’s reception center at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church ast 524 South “I” Street. This event also coincides with the celebration of the centennial of Tacoma’s Union Station on Sunday, May 1st beginning at 1:00 pm at the building located in downtown Tacoma and adjacent to the Washington State History Museum. The celebration will include presentations by local dignitaries including Congressman Norm Dicks, historians, and preservationists. Panel discussions will include DAHP’s own railroad authority Russell Holter.  The event is hosted by the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) who now owns and manages the iconic building and the adjacent U.S. Federal Courthouse.
