DAHP SENDS OUT RFT (REQUEST FOR TEE SHIRTS) FOR OFFICE WINDOW DISPLAY

“Send us your tee shirts!” is the message State Historic Preservation Officer Allyson Brooks is broadcasting in preparation for an upcoming window display at the Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation (DAHP) office. DAHP wants to promote awareness of Washington’s historic properties to pedestrians and motorists on Olympia’s Capitol Way…a well-traveled route between Capitol Campus offices and popular local lunch spots...by mounting a display in our office window that is filled with preservation tee shirts. Therefore, DAHP is sending out a call to all organizations and agencies that have created (or want to create) and distribute tee shirts to send DAHP one shirt that we can mount in our display in order to promote awareness and appreciation for historic properties. DAHP’s Window Display Coordinator Austin Hull is seen in this photo in front of DAHP’s Capitol Way office window (you can make out our current window display of posters about historic properties at Snoqualmie Pass). Austin is holding up a tee shirt created for Waterville’s historic Nifty Theater while modeling a tee shirt created to help save the (since demolished) Shelton Gymnasium. DAHP’s goal is to construct the window display by November 28th , in time for a special legislative session. We plan to leave the display up through the regular 2012 Legislative Session that begins January 9 and lasts into April. A few rules and requests: 1)      Tee shirts must feature a historic property (building, structure, site, district, or object) that is listed in, or determined to be eligible for listing in, the National Register of Historic Places, the Washington Heritage Register, the Heritage Barn Register, or a local register of historic places. 2)      As our window space is limited in area, we request your shirt be sent to DAHP in a small adult size so that we can display as many as possible. 3)      Please: mail only one tee shirt per property. 4)      If we are not able to display your tee-shirt, it will be promptly returned to you. 5)      If your organization also has a lapel pin or button associated with the same historic property as the shirt, feel free to mail the button and/or pin along as well and we will attach it to the shirt for the display. 6)      When mailing your organization’s preservation tee shirt to DAHP, please include in the parcel a self-addressed mailing label so that we can easily return the shirt to you when the display is taken down. 7)      Please note: Tee shirts will be displayed on the window interior. This is an east facing window and receives considerable UV exposure on sunny mornings. DAHP is not responsible for any fading that may occur to the shirt. 8)      Tee shirts should be mailed to: Austin Hull---Window Display, DAHP, POB 48343, Olympia WA 98504-8343. If using a parcel delivery service, mail to our street address at: 1063 Capitol Way South, Suite 106, Olympia WA 98501. DAHP invites you to participate in our window display project. We look forward to receiving your organization’s tee shirt. Should you have any questions, contact Greg Griffith at greg.griffith@dahp.wa.gov or 360-586-3073.
