Downtown Olympia Association to Hire Executive Director

The Olympia Downtown Association (ODA) is a non-profit organization. The ODA’s mission is to preserve, promote and enhance the downtown Olympia Community. The ODA is one of thirteen Main Street® programs in Washington State. The Main Street® approach provides a flexible framework that puts the traditional assets for downtown, such as unique architecture and locally owned businesses, to work as a catalyst for economic growth and community pride. The ODA is a small budget organization that is mainly driven by volunteers and financial support by small businesses. A candidate who recognizes this position, as an opportunity to learn and network with an important segment of Thurston County businesses and cultural groups will best fit the needs and culture of the ODA. Job Knowledge and Skills Required The executive director should have education and/or experience in one or more of the following areas: architecture, historic preservation, economics, finance, fund raising, public relations, design, journalism, planning, business administration and/or small business development. The executive director must understand the issues confronting downtown business people, property owners, public agencies and community organizations. The executive director must be entrepreneurial, energetic, imaginative, well organized and capable of functioning effectively in an independent situation. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential. The Executive Director reports to a 15-member board of directors. The ODA currently has two full-time support staff so supervisory skills are essential. Budget and accounting knowledge of QuickBooks are highly desirable.
