EBEY'S RESERVE SEEKS INTERPRETATION/EDUCATION SPECIALIST

INTERPRETATION/EDUCATION SPECIALIST Reports to: Reserve Manager Location: Coupeville, WA Closing Date: March 19, 2012 Status: .75 FTE Salary Range: Competitive with Benefits (Grade 7) Summary of Position The Interpretation and Education Specialist is responsible for working with a diverse set of stakeholders to implement the Reserve’s Long Range Interpretation Plan (LRIP). The Interp/Education Specialist will develop interpretation, education and outreach activities associated with the interpretive themes for Ebey’s Reserve by working with Trust Board partners and key stakeholder groups. The Interpretation and Education Specialist will work in collaboration with Trust Board partners and stakeholder groups to raise public awareness of and support for the Reserve’s unique resources. This position will also develop, train and manage interpretative and other seasonal staff and volunteers for Ebey’s Reserve. This position requires a significant amount of self-direction, including the ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple work assignments and work with a diverse group of stakeholders. Responsibilities
  • Coordinate with partners, organizations, and government agencies, local citizens and businesses to develop and implement LRIP Actions, and develop other relevant events and activities linked to Call to Action and America’s Great Outdoors Initiative.
  • Manage, expand and administer the Jacob Ebey House Visitor Contact Station Volunteer Docent Program, exhibits and special events.
  • Manage the Reserve’s waysides, panels and trail interpretation projects, including upgrading existing waysides/panels, developing new waysides, gateways, panels and signage consistent with LRIP, Master Sign Plan and General Management Plan.
  • Engage partners and community leaders as volunteers to participate in interpretation/education and outreach program activities.
  • Coordinate the Historic Preservation Field School.
  • Coordinate training/educational opportunities for Historic Preservation Commission, and other stakeholder groups .
  • Develop and Organize the Ebey’s Forever Conference.
  • Design and implement special events associated with the Ebey’s Forever Fund.
  • Secure funding (NPS project/other sources) for LRIP implementation and interpretation/education program activities.
  • Develop/distribute press releases to local, regional, national media.
  • Develop/coordinate/implement all marketing/collateral materials for interpretation, education and outreach program activities.
  • Participate as integral part of Reserve’s administrative team.
  • Participate in Trust Board workshops and meetings, and staff meetings as requested and perform other duties as assigned. Respond to information requests from visitors, partners, external contacts.
  • Manage and coordinate Volunteer in Parks program for the Reserve.
  • Maintain/update Reserve’s website, blog and Facebook page.
  • May supervise seasonal staff and interns.
  • Manage Reserve brochures distribution to stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) from accredited institution and at least 3-5 years relevant interpretation, education, historic preservation, cultural resource experience; or equivalent work experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to be flexible, perform under pressure, and work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated experience with developing and maintaining social media.
  • Ability to work with diverse people and develop positive working relationships with government agency employees, residents, visitors and other key stakeholders.Must have valid Washington Driver’s License.
Desirable Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Demonstrated strong organizational skills, attention to detail and accuracy, and ability to identify and solve problems.
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently, organize and manage diverse and multiple activities, set priorities, meeting deadlines, and remain flexible.
  • Experience in historic preservation, cultural resources.
  • Non-profit experience and familiarity with governmental organizations desirable.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of people and demonstrate a strong public service ethic.
  • Strong computer proficiency, including experience with word processing, spreadsheet and graphics software, as well as experience with social media. Willingness to work some non-standard hours on occasion.
  • Experience in agritourism, heritage based programming.
  • Enthusiasm and commitment to the Trust Board’s mission.
  • Must have valid Washington Driver’s License and automobile transportation.
This is a .75 FTE, salaried position that reports to the Reserve Manager. The Trust Board of Ebey’s Landing offers a competitive salary and benefits package.
