Get Ready for Another Great Historic Seattle Program Year!

It’s our 40th Anniversary Year! Historic Seattle is proud to offer an outstanding 2014 educational program for lovers of buildings and heritage. Enjoy lectures, private homes, local and out-of-town tours, and special events that bring you closer to understanding and appreciating the rich and varied built environment that we seek to preserve and protect with your help. Our program brochure is available and events are online. Here’s some of what you can expect.
  • Digging Deeper—Built Heritage Research: A multi-session program for those wishing to learn about the primary research materials in the many archives in Seattle and King County.
  • A special focus on First Hill as we debut our 40th Anniversary publication, Seattle’s First Hill. Learning from Historic Sites/Members meetings are at First Hill historic buildings. Our publication presentation and book-signing party is at Town Hall Seattle in November.
  • Preserving Utility includes an all-day tour of City Light’s Skagit Hydroelectric power plants, dams, staff buildings, and gardens with preservation experts.
  • Explore the architectural treasures of Tacoma on an all-day tour of downtown and neighborhoods.
  • Tour preservation and adaptive reuse projects to understand the challenges and successes of re-purposing historic properties in Bothell, Kenmore, and Kirkland.
  • Attend the screening of the documentary The Greenest Building in a free showing at the Seattle Public Library, followed by a panel discussion with the producer and panel of local experts.
  • Be invited guests at an architecturally significant private home on Queen Anne Hill and the Centennial celebration for the beloved Ellsworth Storey cottages in Mt. Baker’s Colman Park.
  • Enjoy the traveling exhibition Deco Japan: Shaping Art and Culture 1920-1945 with our community partner, the Seattle Art Museum in a specially arranged walk-through with the collector.
  • Take part in our 6th Annual Historic Preservation Awards event at Good Shepherd Center.
