LECTURE ON THE 1885 EXPULSION OF CHINESE RESIDENTS FROM TACOMA

Beth Lew-Williams, Professor of History at Princeton University, will be presenting her lecture titled "The Chinese Must Go": Tacoma and the Making of the Alien in America  on Thursday February 20 at 5:00 pm in room 104 at Jones Hall at the University of Puget Sound campus in Tacoma. Professor Lew-Williams, will discuss how American immigration policies in the late 19th century incited violence and how the violence, in turn, proviked new exclusionary policies. The lecture and community discussion will also include brief presentations from representatives of the Chinese Reconciliaton Project Foundation and the City of Tacoma.
