MAIN STREET ECONOMIC IMPACT STUDY RELEASED: YES! PRESERVATION PAYS

The Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation's Main Street Program recently released The Impact of Main Street in Washington State, once again documenting the positive impact that Main Street programs and historic preservation has on local and  state economies. To view the Executive Summary, the full report, and to access a printable version, go to: https://dahp.wa.gov/historic-preservation/preservation-research-topics/economic-benefits.

Prepared by Jon Stover and Associates, the study generated impressive statistics that quantify the contributions of local Main Street progams in sustaining existing businesses, creating new businesses, plus generating revenue. In an interesting approach, the report also makes a strong case for the social capital generated by Main Street communities and historic places.
