MINNESOTA HISTORICAL SOCIETY PUBLISHES BOOK AIMED AT SMALL MUSEUM MANAGEMENT

Recently add to the DAHP Library is a new book on museum construction and management.  The Minnesota Historical Society has published a new book on the field of building and maintaining museums entitled, BUILDING MUSEUMS: A HANDBOOK FOR SMALL AND MIDSIZED ORGANIZATIONS by Robert Herskovitz, Timothy Glines, and David Grabitske. The book is geared toward the managers of smaller County and “House” museums.  This handbook outlines the processes and explains the complexities of renovating and building museum facilities in very plain language, it highlights what issues to consider and what questions to ask; it outlines steps from needs assessment and project planning to design development, budgeting, construction and finally, settling into the new space; it provides the vocabulary and framework for the specific challenges of museum construction.
