MURRAY MORGAN BRIDGE GROUNDBREAKING CEREMONY, APRIL 19

On April 19 at 9 a.m., the City of Tacoma will host a groundbreaking celebration to commemorate the next phase of rehabilitation work for the Murray Morgan Bridge. The Murray Morgan Bridge, also known as the 11th Street Bridge, is a vital link between downtown and both the East Foss Peninsula and the Port of Tacoma. It provides an emergency route for the Port, Fire and Police services. Bridge access also fosters economic development on the East Foss Peninsula and will improve access to the new Center for Urban Waters, existing businesses and the Port’s proposed development on the east side of the Foss Waterway. All are welcome to attend the groundbreaking ceremony where City officials will speak on the approach to the bridge near the intersection of A and 11th streets. A public meeting to learn about the scope of the project, the project schedule and to ask questions will be held on April 20 at the Foss Waterway Seaport Building (705 Dock St.) from 5 to 6 p.m. Construction to fix the lift span and restore vehicle traffic to the bridge is scheduled to begin mid-April and projected to be substantially complete by the end of 2012.
