Monday, February 28, 2011 @ Noon State Capital Museum 211 – 21st Ave. SW, Olympia (360) 753-2580 Come learn about two history mysteries related to Washington State roads. Archaeologist Pam Trautman will first talk about “Have You Lost Your Marbles? Clay Balls at Station Camp, a Conundrum.” She will discuss puzzling clay objects that were found during excavations associated with the realignment of US101 along the Columbia River at the historic town of McGowan. Then historian Craig Holstine will speak on “Waiting for the End of the World: A Cold War Fallout Shelter Under I-5 in Seattle.” He will examine the Weedin Place Fallout Shelter, a dark, empty bunker that provides a dramatic reminder of Cold War hysteria. This public program is part of the “Bridging Time and Connecting Places” Lecture Series at the State Capital Museum. Suggested donation to each presentation is $2. You are welcome to bring lunch. Coffee, tea and cookies will be served.
