NAVY HIRING AN HISTORIAN OR HISTORIC ARCHITECT

Position Announcement          October 6, 2009 Position:     Historian/Architectural Historian, GS-12-0170 or Architect/Historic Architect, GS-12-0080 Type:          Professional Opportunity Location:  Department of Navy, Silverdale, WA Naval Facilities Engineering Command Northwest (NAVFAC NW) is soliciting applications for a position to be filled by either an Historian or an Architectural Historian.  For this position, NAVFAC NW is seeking a motivated and experienced individual to pursue quality historical architectural research in a cultural resource management context.  The primary duties include architectural resource field surveys; historical and archival research; National Register of Historical Places eligibility evaluations; state electronic inventory forms completion; HABS-HAER documentation; negotiating, developing, and implementing creative mitigation; developing historical preservation plans and cultural resource management plans; conducting effects assessment pursuant to compliance with Sections 106 of the NHPA; technical writing; and National Environmental Policy Act support.  Project assignments require occasional overnight travel. The applicants must meet the Secretary of Interior qualifications and must demonstrate professional experience in field surveying and evaluation of historical buildings/structures/features in the context of Sections 106 and 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act, preferably in the Pacific Northwest. Preferred candidates will possess knowledge, familiarity, and practical work experience with federal laws, regulations, standards, and guidelines governing cultural resources.  Candidates will communicate directly with the U.S. Navy community as well as with State Historic Preservation Officers, the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation, tribes, and with the public.  Candidates will also have the ability to work both on their own initiative and as part of a team with other cultural resource professionals.  Prior experience in preparing Statements of Work and contracting and the ability to develop a historical/cultural program and budget is also a plus.  Resumes will be accepted until close of business October 30, 2009.  Interested applicants may send their resumes hardcopy or electronically to:
