NTHP RELEASES SECTION 106 REPORT

The two-part study – entitled “Section 106 of the National Preservation Act: Back to Basics”, written by Leslie Barras was released today. Barras was commissioned by the National Trust for Historic Preservation to do an independent study of the Section 106 program and to make recommendations that might help to improve the 106 review process. According to the NTHP, “Ms. Barras’ findings and recommendations are her own, but the themes that she sets out in the report are that the core principles of Section 106 need to be reaffirmed and that Section 106 must be at the core of the work of the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation. In addition, the study notes that earlier and broader integration of preservation values in federal agency planning and public access to the review process is crucial if Section 106 is to truly establish federal leadership in historic preservation.” Links to the 2-Part report: Part 1 - http://www.preservationnation.org/resources/newsletters/public-policy-weekly-bulletin/SECTION106_RPT_PT1_FINAL.pdf Part 2 - http://www.preservationnation.org/resources/newsletters/public-policy-weekly-bulletin/SECTION106_RPT_PT2_FINAL.pdf
