ONLINE TUTORIAL NOW AVAILABLE FOR HPI SYSTEM
Feb 04, 2011
By Megan Duvall, DAHP As the Survey Program Manager at DAHP, its been my job to work through the changes to how we inventory historic properties in Washington for the last 10 years or so. We were pleased when we launched the MS Access database back in 2002/2003 - doing away with the old card stock inventory forms (yes, folks came into the office and grabbed a stack of hard copy "inventory" forms that they then TYPED....with a typewriter.....). We were even more excited when we launched the online version of our HPI system in July of 2010. We've gotten lots of positive feedback (and yes, a few gripes) on the new system and hope that those of you using it are finding it a great new tool. Since July, Russell Holter and I have trained most of the 450+ users of the HPI on how to use the system. I'm happy to announce that we now have an online tutorial that folks can pull up when they want a refresher on the system, need initial training on how it works, or how to solve some of the more common problems that we've encountered over these first six months of it's use. Here is the link to the web page where you can watch the Flash Player video: http://www.screencast.com/t/xdE4kRw0. I've organized the tutorial with a table of contents, so if you are interested in just one particular aspect of the video - it's my hope that you'll be able to find it quickly by clicking on the particular title you want. Now for the disclaimer - I'm not a professional presenter, and I probably ramble on too long in many of the sections! Forgive my deficiencies as a voice-over personality, but hopefully it will a useful tool when its 12 am on a Sunday night and you have a project due at 9 am Monday morning and you forgot how one aspect of the system operates! Of course, we at DAHP are always happy to help - so if you can't find the answers to your questions on the video, don't hesitate to contact us.
