PAPERS SOUGHT FOR HISTORIC ROAD CONFERENCE

The 7th biennial Preserving the Historic Road conference will be held in Washington, DC, September 9-12, 2010. The planning committee currently is seeking paper abstracts. The deadline for submissions is January 31, 2010. The planning committee invites papers that showcase issues related to historic roads and road systems. Topics such as: Practical and successful examples of Historic road inventories Safety innovations Preservation policy Transportation policy Pavement and materials science Highway maintenance, technical conservation methods Risk analysis for historic roads Road-related Structures and systems Historic roads and structures Roadside architecture Cultural landscapes Viewshed management Rural roads conservation Suburban sprawl issues Community advocacy Historic road tourism development Interpretation, and road history Thematic interpretations Historic road or road culture as seen from alternate disciplines, such as American Studies, Cultural Geography, Native American Studies, etc. International examples of any of the topics presented above.
