PRESENTATION ON THE HISTORICAL AND ARCHAEOLOGICAL FINDINGS AT THE OLD BOUNDARY TOWNSITE

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) will host a Public Presentation to showcase archaeological discoveries made at the townsite and cemetery adjacent to the Boundary, WA Land Port of Entry (LPOE). The presentation will occur on Thursday, April 12, 2012 from 2:00 - 4:00 pm at the Northport Community Center, 403 Center Avenue, Northport, WA 99157. The presentation on the findings of the archaeological investigations and artifacts recovered from the Old Boundary Townsite will be followed by a discussion session to allow the audience to interact with one of the archaeologists involved in the research. BACKGROUND: The Boundary, WA LPOE is undergoing a modernization effort funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.  As part of this project and in accordance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, CBP undertook several archaeological investigations that involved historical research, interviews with local residents, and on-site excavation. ASSOCIATED ACTIVITIES: This presentation allows CBP to present the historical findings to the surrounding community.  In conjunction with this public outreach initiative, CBP is developing additional materials, including an informational brochure and a kiosk display on the history of the Old Boundary community to be constructed and reside at the new Boundary Port of Entry.
