ROGER EASTON (1938-2012): SOUTH SOUND HISTORIAN, EDUCATOR, PRESERVATIONIST

It is with regret that the Department of Archaeology & Historic Preservation notes the passing of Olympia historian Roger Easton. Roger has long been a pillar of the Thurston County and southwest Washington heritage community.  After a lengthy and rewarding career as professor of history and geology in local schools, Roger launched full bore into even greater participation and activism on behalf of history and historic preservation in the South Sound region. He was a long-time member of historic preservation commissions for Olympia, Lacey, and Thurston County and President of the Board of the Bigelow House Preservation Association. Roger was a tireless researcher, dedicating countless volunteer hours to the Washington State Archives cataloguing, scanning, and annotating newspapers, records, and artifacts. A list of his many activities, projects, memberships, and interests would be too numerous to include here. Memorial service arrangements have not been announced.
