SECOND SUNDAY AT THE CATHLAPOTLE PLANKHOUSE

Laxayam! (Hello)!  Join us at the Cathlapotle Plankhouse this Sunday, June 10, at 2pm as we learn about chinuk wawa, a trade language used by Native Americans along the Columbia River.  Presenters Greg Archuleta, Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde, and Justin Robinson, Chinook Indian Nation will educate visitors on the history of the language and teach basic phrases, words and pronunciation.  Efforts are being made by both the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde and the Chinook Indian Nation to revive this language among tribal members and educate the public about it.  If the weather permits, we will also be taking a walk on the trail to learn about some of the traditional names and uses of native plants. For more information see the attached flyer or you can contact Katie Harrison at Katie_Harrison@fws.gov or 360-887-4106.  You can also visit www.ridgefieldfriends.org for more upcoming events during the summer.
