SWINOMISH TRIBE BECOMES THPO

National Park Service approves the Swinomish Indian Tribal Community to assume SHPO functions The Director of the National Park Service has formally approved the proposal of the Swinomish Indian Tribal Community to assume certain State Historic Preservation Officer duties within the exterior boundaries of the tribe’s reservation in Washington.  The Tribe has assumed formal responsibility for review of Federal undertakings pursuant to Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act.  In addition, the Tribe has assumed all of the other SHPO functions set out in the Act with the exceptions of nominating properties to the National Register of Historic Places, assisting in the certification of local governments and assisting in the evaluation of Investment Tax Credit rehabilitation projects.  The Tribe’s historic preservation officer is Mr. Larry Campbell.  Please address correspondence to: Mr. Larry Campbell Swinomish Indian Tribal Community 11430 Moorage Way La Conner WA 98257 Telephone: 360-466-1615 Fax: 360-466-4127 Email: lcampbell@swinomish.nsn.us For a complete list of tribes that have assumed SHPO functions, please see the NPS website.
