Vernacular Architecture Forum - New Cascadia Chapter

Ladies and Gentlemen, start your (vernacular) engines! Announcing a new start-up in the Pacific Northwest: the Cascadia Chapter of the Vernacular Architecture Forum (VAF)!  The VAF is the national home of vernacular architecture studies, now celebrating its 38th year, with an annual conference, respected academic journal and other publications, and a great network of like-minded building enthusiasts. We’re ready to form the organization’s second regional chapter here in Oregon and Washington to help us study and enjoy the great common buildings and landscapes of our wet and wonderful homeland!  We hope to hold tours, paper sessions, and maybe even a fiddle dance to explore the amazing ordinary buildings and landscapes around us. We’ll be gathering a few hardy souls on Tuesday, June 6 from 6:00pm to 7:30pm in both Eugene and Portland (by video link) to chat about barns, box houses, and bargeboards, and to get organized (in that loose VAF way) for tours, lectures, and other events that celebrate our vernacular heritage.  Many of us will just be returning from this year’s VAF conference in Salt Lake City, so we’ll be full of ideas – join us on June 6 to consider the possibilities!
