WELCOME SYDNEY!

State Historic Preservation Officer (SHPO) Allyson Brooks and Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation (DAHP) staff are excited to welcome new DAHP staff member Sydney Hanson. Although a native of Spokane, Sydney comes to us via Madison where she worked for the Archaeology Program at the Wisconsin State Historical Society. She received her Bachelors degree from Central Washington University and Her Masters from Washington State University, both degrees in Anthropology.

Sydney is working with Dennis Wardlaw as part of DAHP's Transportation Archaeology team and replacing former staff member Matthew Sterner who left the agency earlier this summer to work in private cultural resource consulting. Dennis and Sydney review and comment on proposed transportation projects with potential to affect archaeological resources and Traditional Cultural Places (TCPs). They coordinate their reviews with Holly Borth, project reviewer for DAHP's Built Environment Unit.

Sydney has set up residence in Olympia along with Zuka, her one-eyed cat and Carrot, her two-eyed rabbit. She loves baking and party planning...a good fit for DAHP. Contact Sydney at 360-586-3082 or Sydney.Hanson@dahp.wa.gov.
