Wisaard Q & A

Hello out there! As you have noticed, the new Wisaard features have not launched yet. We apologize for the delay and are working as hard as we can to get them ready. Keep heading to the website for the most updated info. Q: Why don't the colors for the archaeology predictive model on the map match what is in the legend? A: The colors actually do match, the issue is that the layer on the map is not opaque to ensure that you can see through it for reference. Whenever a layer is made even slightly transparent, it loses a bit of it's color. It is just the nature of the beast. The best way to read the map is to focus on the value (relative darkness or lightness). Find a spot on the map that is the darkest and match it to the darkest color on the key. Then locate the next one down and so on. We recommend that you view the predictive model using the Street or Topo base maps because they provide a neutral background and will not interfere with the shading. Do not use the aerial map in the background while looking at the predictive model.
