WOMEN'S RIGHT TO VOTE CELEBRATION AT THE STATE CAPITAL MUSEUM

Please join us Saturday for a special event to commemorate the passage of the 19^th to the United States Constitution, which enabled women’s full voting rights nationally in 1920.  This program is part of the overall celebration of Washington’s Women’s Suffrage centennial. Programs, family activities, presentations and dramatic re-enactments and refreshments.  Guests are welcome and encouraged to wear period dress to celebrate this historic event as part of the 100^th anniversary of Washington women winning the vote in 1910. Event is co-sponsored by National Organization for Women of Thurston County in partnership with the Women’s History Consortium. Saturday, August 28, 2010, 11 AM to 3 PM. Alice Paul and Lucy Burns began a more radical branch of women fighting for the right to vote. They found themselves up against powerful men, an atmosphere of chauvinism, an unconcerned President (Woodrow Wilson) and even their own more conservative counterparts.  These women risked their lives and loves to fight for what they believe in. Post screening discussion with Senator Karen Fraser, Supreme Court Justice Gerry Alexander and Women’s History Consortium Coordinator Shanna Stevenson.
