Training Opportunity for Hazardous Waste Recovery Efforts & Protecting Cultural Resources

The State Emergency Response Commission (SERC) is supporting two free HAZWOPER training opportunities in partnership with the Yakama Nation, Colville Tribe,  Dept of Ecology, and the EPA, for local first responders and tribal members using HMEP Grant funds.The 40-hour course will be targeted toward all first responders or private organizations who would be interested in being involved in clean-up operations, emergency response operations, and storage, disposal or treatment of hazardous materials or uncontrolled hazardous waste sites.

The 24-hour course would be beneficial to any tribal member who would want to be considered a tribal monitor to represent a tribe’s archeological, cultural, or environmental best interest on a hazardous waste site. Others who may be interested would be private and governmental organizations involved in the archeological, cultural, and environmental fields. This course is recommended for anyone wanting to work on, or near a hazardous materials site.

The 8-hour Refresher course is required annually for first responders who have already taken the 40-hour course.

Travel costs, including hotel and per diem, will be reimbursed for tribal representatives traveling more than 50 miles one way to attend a training.
