If you are medical examiner, coroner or law enforcement official and determine that skeletal remains are not recent (non-forensic), please contact the Department of Archaeology & Historic Preservation immediately.  Do not remove remains from the ground if at all possible.  By state law, the Department of Archaeology & Historic Preservation has jurisdiction over non-forensic remains and will handle these human remains cases.

Also, please call us if your agency has non-forensic skeletal remains that it has acquired in the past.  The Department of Archaeology & Historic Preservation will assume jurisdiction over those remains and handle their disposition as well.
