ARCHAEOLOGY & HISTORIC PRESERVATION AWARD WINNERS AT HISTORY DAY

Each year, the Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation (DAHP), like eighteen other agencies and organizations in Washington, sponsor special awards for student contestants at Washington History Day competition. Final Medalists at Washington History Day, go on to the National History Day competition held in Washington, D.C. This year's National History Day theme was Innovation in History. This year, DAHP is proud to announce that the 2010 Archaeology and Historic Preservation Award winners are Reed Middleman for her exhibit entitled National Parks: Roots of Land Preservation. Reed attends Wyeast Middle School in Vancouver. For group projects, the recipients of the Award are: Jessica Maley, Elizabeth Richards, Rebecca McDonnell and Annalise Osterberg from Stanwood High School for their project on Pike Place Public Market. Recipients of the Archaeology and Historic Preservation Award receive a personalized guided tour of the Washington State Capitol Campus Historic District by DAHP's Architectural Historian Michael Houser. DAHP extends its congratulations to our 2010 award winners Reed, Jessica, Elizabeth, Rebecca and Annalise for their great work. Thanks also go to Washington History Day coordinators Lauren Danner and Mark Vessey of the Washington State Historical Society for all their hard work, time and enthusiasm for making Washington History Day such a success for students and for history education. The 2010 Washington History Day judging took place on May 1 at Bellevue Community College.
