IN PASSING: BARRY DOVE OF NEW DUNGENESS LIGHT STATION ASSOCIATION

DAHP has received word from the Association of the passing of Barry Dove on March 14th in Sequim, from cancer. Barry was the long-time volunteer, advocate, and manager for the Association and its ongoing work to preserve the New Dungeness Light Station and make it accessible to the public.

Born in South Africa, Barry emigrated to the U.S. with his family as a young man eventually landing in Sequim where he worked for many years for the Sequim Gazette. While working for the Gazette, Barry became a leader in the effort to protect the light house complex when in 1994 the Coast Guard announced its decision to relinquish its ownership. Barry was one of the founders of the Association and successfully worked to acquire the light station buildings from the Coast Guard.

The Board of Directors was able to inform Barry that a historical sites trail with descriptive signs around the station grounds will be named The Barry Dove Interpretive Trail, and that the replacement topmost window in the lighthouse tower has been donated in his name. To help continue Barry's work to preserve the light station, the Association has established the Barry Dove Family Fund at First Federal Bank to receive donations.
