Overlook – White Salmon, Klickitat County (WHR)
The George and Louisa Aggers House, know as “Overlook”, was once part of a small 46 acre cherry orchard business on the western edge of White Salmon. The 1910 craftsman style farmhouse serves as an excellent example of Arts & Crafts dwellings from the early 20th century.
Thorp School, Thorp, Kittitas County (NR)
The Thorp Grade School, built in 1936, is one of the oldest and best preserved “rural brick schoolhouses” in Kittitas County. Designed by noted architect John Maloney in a U-shape, the Colonial Revival style building was constructed for $41,000 and housed grades 1st through 8th grade. Today it still operates as a grade school.
Atlas E Missile Site No.9, Reardon, Lincoln County (NR)
The Atlas E Missile Site 9 in Reardan, holds the distinction of being the first Atlas E Missile complex in the nation to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The nominated site, built in 1960, was one of nine identical Atlas E missile complexes attached to Fairchild Air Force Base in Spokane and is associated with the nation’s historic deployment of nuclear intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) weapons program during the Cold War. Due to rapidly changing missile technology, Site No. 9 was operational for just 5 short years.
Naval Reserve Armory, Seattle, King County (NR)
Built on the eve of World War II, on the southwest shore of Seattle's Lake Union, the Naval Reserve Armory is significant for its direct tie to the Navy and Depression-era public works programs. Completed in 1942 using WPA funding, the Armory began life as a community-based project that was eventually designated as an official National Defense Project at the start of World War II. Plans are currently underway to turn the building into the new home of the Museum of History & Industry.
Women’s University Club, Seattle, King County (NR)
The Women’s University Club of Seattle was established in 1914 to serve as a social clubhouse where college-educated women could participate in social and cultural activities, while maintaining their interests in the liberal arts and sciences, and obtain a greater understanding of world affairs. The 1922 Georgian Revival clubhouse was designed and constructed to serve as a multi-purpose facility.
Roanoke Park Historic District, Seattle, King County (NR)
The Roanoke Park Historic District is significant for its direct connections to the broad patterns of development of the city of Seattle. The neighborhood, originally a “street-car suburb”, served as home to a variety of politicians, medical professionals, lawyers, prominent businessmen and some of Seattle’s earliest historians. The district is also significant for its collection of early 20th century residential architecture, many designed by prominent Seattle architects. A district has not been listed in Seattle since 1986.
Homestead of the Dalles Mount Ranch Historic District – near Dallesport, Klickitat County (NR Pending)
Located within Columbia Hills State Park, the historic district consists of 58 resources which once comprised 14 individual homesteads. Together they form a distinct Cultural Landscape of late 19th and early 20th Century livestock ranching and homesteading.
Millersylvania State Park – Thurston County (NR)
Millersylvania State Park is historically significant for its direct association with Depression era New-Deal programs. The park holds one of the best collections (17 large buildings and other landscape features) of Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) structures in the state.
Washington Building – Tacoma, Pierce County (NR)
Upon its completion in 1925, The Washington Building in downtown Tacoma was hailed as the tallest building in the city and the second tallest building in the Pacific Northwest, only behind Seattle’s Smith Tower. After its completion, the Building stood as a testament to the financial security and growing prosperity of the city. Over the years it served as home to a variety of business, including a succession of banks. The Beaux Arts style building was designed by the architectural firm of Doyle & Merriam.
Grays Harbor Light Station – near Westport, Grays Harbor County (NR)
Listed on the NRHP since 1977, The Grays Harbor Station was re-nominated to the NR in order to update outdated information. Located just south of Westport, the light station was completed in 1898 and today consists of three buildings; the lighthouse and two oil storage buildings. At 110 ft tall, the lighthouse is the tallest lighthouse in the state. The station was designed by master lighthouse architect Carl W. Leick.
HERITAGE BARNS
The success of the Heritage Barn Register program continued with the inclusion of 16 barns ranging in date from 1900 to 1953. The listed barns included six gambrel style barns, still the most prevalent barn type represented on the Barn Register to date.
