Complete Streets Program Nomination Application Deadline Nears
2018 marks the second grant cycle for implementing Washington's Complete Streets program. And once again, the WA Transportation Improvement Board (TIB) has invited the Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation (DAHP) to participate as one of the State agencies and non-profit organizations that will nominate local jurisdictions (cities and counties) to TIB as candidates to receive grant funding to implement their local Complete Streets program. Many wonder why DAHP is engaged is this program? Clearly how communities plan, design, and manage transportation facilities has many direct and in-direct impacts on the integrity and character of cultural and historic properties. Think of how traffic noise, volumes, and appearance affects the character and appeal of historic downtowns, Main Streets, and neighborhoods as well as construction impacts to archaeological resources.
DAHP has established November 15, 2018 as the deadline for jurisdictions to submit applications to DAHP for be considered as one of the agency's nomination of up to 11 communities to TIB. In turn, DAHP must submit its nominated jurisdictions to TIB by December 15, 2018. Please note that DAHP's deadline is one month before the deadline that TIB has given to DAHP and the other nominating entities. Since the process is competitive, this time will allow DAHP to review and score the applications before submitting to TIB
