DAHP Welcomes New Assistant State Physical Anthropologist

Juliette

The Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation is pleased to announce an addition to its staff.  Juliette Vogel was hired earlier this month into the DAHP’s temporary one year position of Assistant State Physical Anthropologist.  Juliette will be working closely with Dr. Guy L. Tasa on non-forensic human remains issues from throughout the state.  A native of North Carolina, Juliette received her B.A. in Anthropology with a minor in Archaeology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2004. Having developed research interests in physical anthropology, Juliette attended the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and in 2007 completed a Master’s thesis on the biocultural implications of disease in a protohistoric Native American community in Tennessee. Throughout her academic and professional career, Juliette has worked on a variety of Cultural Resource Management projects in North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Arizona. Her primary research interests include health and disease in Native American populations, epidemiology, and mortuary archaeology.
