2013 Holiday Tour of Historic Homes Benefitting the Bigelow House Museum in Olympia

Again in 2013, the Bigelow House Preservation Association is sponsoring the Holiday Historic Home Tour.  This year’s event is on Sunday, December 8, 2013 from noon to 4:00 p.m. in Olympia and Tumwater and features six historic properties along with the Bigelow House at 918 Glass Avenue, where tickets will be available the day of the tour. Luepke-Talcott House This year’s tour features several important landmarks and Olympia Historic Register properties. The Luepke-Talcott House  at 222 19th Avenue SW dating from the early 20th century is a four square style house built by an employee of the Olympia Brewery and later owned by the Noyes and Richard Talcott Families.    The Robert and Pearl Yantis House at 212 19th Avenue SW, built ca. 1911, was designed by Olympia Architect Samuel Ward in a signature Craftsman style.  Another tour house related to the Talcott Family is the George and Addie Talcott House, at 2003 Capitol Way S., ca. 1924 which is a fine example of the blended Colonial Revival-Craftsman style house built for members of the noted jeweler family of Olympia.  The Belsito-Worthington House at 408 27th Avenue SE was built by local attorney and home designer Trena Belsito Worthington in 1948 in a Georgian Revival style.  The landmark Egbert-Ingham House, ca. 1914 at 2708 Adams St. SE, one of the best examples of the Colonial Revival style in Olympia was moved from its original location on the present capital grounds and boasts an intriguing history, including serving for a time as the Governor’s Mansion in 1974-75. Egbert-Ingham House The tour also includes the Schmidt House at 330 Schmidt Place in Tumwater, built ca. 1904 for Leopold and Johanna Schmidt and later the home of the Peter and Clara Schmidt Family, now owned by the Olympia Tumwater Foundation.   Tickets and refreshments are available there the day of the tour. Tour tickets are $15.00 per person and are available in advance starting November 9, 2013 at Drees at 524 Washington St. SE; Popinjay at 414 Capitol Way S., in Olympia and Thompson Furniture at 5407 Capitol Boulevard, Tumwater. Proceeds of the tour benefit the preservation and interpretation of the historic Bigelow House in Olympia at 918 E. Glass.  One of the state’s oldest residences, it is owned by the non-profit Bigelow House Preservation Association and is open to the public on Fridays from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and on Sundays from 1:00-4:00 p.m.  The National Register House has its original furnishings and has been restored to reflect the Territorial period of the house with later period dining room and kitchen.  It was the home of Daniel and Ann Elizabeth Bigelow and their descendants for well over 100 years before being acquired by the BHPA.
