Black History Project
Supported by a grant from the National Park Service in 2021, the Department of Archaeology & Historic Preservation (DAHP) began an effort to identify and survey historic sites relating to Black history in the State. The initial study sought to specifically identify Black “creators” (architects, designers, engineers, artists, builders, etc) who have made contributions to Washington’s built environment. The lead for the project was Guided Methods and Studio TJP.
Since then, with the help of legislative funding, DAHP has hired a full-time Black History coordinator to further the work. Details about the various surveyed sites can be found here: www.blackhistoricsiteswa.com.
